Baseball Recap: Hernando Makes It Six in a Row on the Road

After losing to Oxford the last time they met, Hernando decided to demonstrate that turnabout is fair play. The Tigers walked away with a 9-4 victory over the Chargers on Friday.

Reece Canizaro looked comfortable as he pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. What's more, he posted two strikeouts, the most he's had since back in March.

At the plate, the team relied heavily on Axton Westmoreland, who scored three runs and stole two bases while getting on base in all four of his plate appearances. Those three runs gave him a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Luke Romine, who scored two runs while going 2-for-2.

Hernando pushed their record up to 14-8-1 with the win, which was their sixth straight on the road. Those road victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.2 runs on average over those games. As for Oxford, their loss dropped their record down to 9-12.

Looking ahead, Hernando will take on Lafayette at 12:00 p.m. on Saturday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (the Tigers 3.4, the Commodores 3.5) so any runs scored will be well earned. As for Oxford, they will challenge Caledonia at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday. The Chargers' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Cavaliers have averaged an impressive 7.2 runs per game this season.
