Basketball Recap: Chula Vista Takes a Loss

If Chula Vista was riding high fresh off their 69-28 takedown of Hilltop last Wednesday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. The Chula Vista Spartans fell to the Sweetwater Red Devils 67-63. The Spartans were not able to make up for their loss to the Red Devils from their previous meeting back in January of 2024.

Defeat or not, Chula Vista got some senior leadership from Giovanni Contreras and Elijah Gillespie. Contreras posted 27 points, while Gillespie earned 26 points. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Gillespie has scored all season.

Chula Vista's loss dropped their record down to 17-6. As for Sweetwater, the win made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 10-11.

Chula Vista has already played their next match, a 51-46 victory against Castle Park on the 5th. As for Sweetwater, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next game, a 2-0 win against El Cajon Valley on the 1st.
