Basketball Recap: Cranbrook Kingswood Cranes vs. Notre Dame Prep Fighting Irish
The Cranbrook Kingswood Cranes entered their tilt with the Notre Dame Prep Fighting Irish with five consecutive wins but they'll enter their next game with six. Cranbrook Kingswood strolled past the Fighting Irish with points to spare on Friday, taking the game 48-32. Given Cranbrook Kingswood's advantage in MaxPreps' Michigan basketball rankings (they are ranked 160th, while the Fighting Irish are ranked 389th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Cranbrook Kingswood's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Brooke Brown led the charge by scoring 14 points along with five rebounds. Yasmyn Palmer was another key contributor, scoring 13 points along with seven rebounds.
Despite the defeat, Notre Dame Prep saw an underclassman step up: Kaylyn Sowers scored 15 points along with five rebounds and three steals. Sowers has been hot recently, having posted 15 or more points the last three times she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Sydney T burke, who scored seven points along with four steals.
Cranbrook Kingswood's victory was their seventh straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 10-3. As for Notre Dame Prep, their loss dropped their record down to 7-6.
Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Cranbrook Kingswood will take on the Gryphons at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Greenhills is coming into the contest on a three-game losing streak. As for Notre Dame Prep, they will be playing in front of their home fans against the Tigers at 7:00 p.m. on Monday. Armada will be looking to extend their current eight-game winning streak.
