Baseball Recap: Galena Takes a Loss

Galena had lost four straight on the road, but on Tuesday they dropped their record down to 7-7 to make it five. They came up short against the New Covenant Academy Warriors, falling 12-4. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest defeat the Bears have suffered since May 22, 2024.

Wyatt Doak was cooking despite his team's loss, going 1-for-3 with two runs and one triple. That triple marked the first that he has hit this season. Cody Jones was another key player, going 1-for-4 with two stolen bases, one run, and one RBI.

As for New Covenant Academy, they are on a roll lately: they've won six of their last eight matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 14-11 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 7.0 runs over those games.

On New Covenant Academy's side, Keilynn Armitage looked comfortable as he tossed one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. Armitage has been consistent: he hasn't given up more than two hits in five consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Brighton Guisinger was incredible, going 4-for-5 with six RBI, one run, and one double. Those four hits gave him a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Sam Carmack, who earned two runs and four stolen bases.

Galena does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for New Covenant Academy, they will square off against Early at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday. The Warriors' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Panthers have averaged an impressive 6.6 runs per game this season.
