Baseball Game Preview: Rutherford Rams vs. Sequoyah Chiefs

The Rutherford Rams will take on the Sequoyah Chiefs at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Sequoyah took a loss in their last contest and will be looking to turn the tables on Rutherford, who comes in off a win.

Rutherford had to skate by with only a one-run margin when they last took the field, which might have inspired the eight-run drubbing they dealt Rickards two weeks ago. Rutherford put the hurt on Rickards with a sharp 13-5 win.

Connor Ward made a big impact while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, striking out eight batters over seven innings while giving up three earned (and two unearned) runs off ten hits (and only one walk). Those eight strikeouts gave him a new career-high. He was also solid in the batter's box, scoring two runs and stealing a base while going 1-for-4. He has become a key player for Rutherford: the team is undefeated when he posts at least two runs, but 2-8 otherwise.

In other batting news, Douglas Maldonado Romero was a standout: he scored four runs while getting on base in four of his five plate appearances. Those four runs gave him a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Javier Gierbolini, who went 2-for-3 with two runs, one triple, and two RBI.

Meanwhile, Sequoyah lost 8-1 to Bozeman on Tuesday. The Chiefs have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Sequoyah's loss dropped their record down to 5-8. As for Rutherford, their victory bumped their record up to an identical 5-8.
