League recap: Stagg tops McNair to extend winning streak

Stagg extended the longest winning streak in Tri-City this week by beating McNair, 41-29. The win marks seventh in a row for the the Delta Kings.

Tokay moved up to 307 from 366 in the state rankings this week, the biggest jump in the league. The Tigers climbed the ranks as a result of defeating West 62-17.

The Eagles' dynamic duo of Cedrick Phillips and Carl Coleman proved tough for Stagg to stop, as they were the top passer and receiver in the league this week. Phillips threw for 434 yards and three touchdowns and Coleman had 209 yards receiving. Anferney Easter helped McNair's passing attack out by catching 12 balls for 155 yards.

Wayne Brooks was the most productive running back in the league this week. He ran for 122 yards on 16 carries as Don Norton's team lost to Don Norton's team. Lester Williams also contributed to the rushing game with 41 yards on the ground.

The Delta Kings' Brooks and Williams have formed a dynamic duo this season, leading Tri-City in both passing and receiving yards. Brooks has thrown for 1889 yards this season, while Williams, a 5-foot-5 receiver, has 29 catches for 740 yards. Phil Soria's team's Jonathan Stark leads the league in rushing yards with 876.

The top two teams in the league will face off this week when first place Stagg takes on second place Tokay. Stagg defeated the Eagles last week, while Tokay bested the Wolfpack.

Two of the top units in the league will face off this week when the Delta Kings take on Louis Franklin's team. Stagg's offense has scored 318 points this season, good for No. 1 in the league, while the Tigers have allowed only 99 on the year.

Going into this week's game against Tokay, the Delta Kings' Brooks needs 111 passing yards to surpass 2,000 on the season.

The top two defenses in the league will face off this season when the Tigers take on Stagg. Tokay has allowed 99 points this season, while the Delta Kings have given up 103. The Tigers allowed 17 points last week as they topped West.

Tokay made the biggest jump in the national rankings this week, rising to 3,690 from 4,385. The improvement came about via a 62-17 victory over Matt Loggins' team last week.
