Baseball Recap: Cherokee Bluff Continues Home Dominance on Thursday

It's playoff time, and Cherokee Bluff had no trouble coming through when it counted. They came out on top in a nail-biter against the Northwest Whitfield Bruins on Thursday, sneaking past 6-5. The victory was nothing new for the Bears as they're now sitting on seven straight.

The team relied heavily on Ethan England, who went 2-for-4 with two doubles, one stolen base, and two RBI. Those two doubles gave him a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Bryce Fontenot, who got on base in three of his four plate appearances with one stolen base.

They weren't the only ones making solid contact: Cherokee Bluff kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least eight hits in three consecutive games.

Cherokee Bluff's win was their 12th straight at home, which pushed their record up to 23-11. The home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.7 runs on average over those games. As for Northwest Whitfield, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 19-15.

Cherokee Bluff will have a chance to go back-to-back against the Bruins: the pair's next game is a rematch scheduled at 4:30 p.m. on Friday.
