Basketball Preview: Grantsville Cowboys vs. Ben Lomond Scots

The Grantsville Cowboys will be playing at home against the Ben Lomond Scots at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Hopefully Grantsville focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 11 on Friday.

Grantsville had to endure a three-game losing streak, but that streak is no more. They narrowly escaped with a victory as the team sidled past South Summit 56-53. The victory was all the more spectacular given Grantsville's disadvantage in MaxPreps' Utah basketball rankings (they are ranked 95th, while the Wildcats are ranked 19th).

Grantsville's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Ethan Powell, who scored 17 points along with six rebounds. Decker Dzierzon was another key contributor, scoring 17 points along with seven rebounds and two steals.

Meanwhile, Ben Lomond's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Friday after their ninth straight defeat. They suffered a rough 71-45 loss at the hands of Ogden. Ben Lomond has struggled against the Tigers recently, as their matchup on Friday was their fourth consecutive lost matchup.

The losing side was boosted by Jonathan Alcarez, who scored 22 points along with five rebounds and two steals. He is on a roll when it comes to blocks, as he's now posted two or more in the last three games he's played. Another player making a difference was Jordan Harrison, who scored eight points.

Grantsville's win ended a three-game drought at home and bumped them up to 7-14. As for Ben Lomond, they have been struggling recently as they've lost 11 of their last 12 matchups, which put a noticeable dent in their 5-16 record this season.

Some high-performance offense is likely on the agenda as the two teams are some of the highest scoring teams in the league. Grantsville hasn't had any problem running up the score this season, having averaged 55.2 points per game. However, it's not like Ben Lomond struggles in that department as they've been averaging 56.5 points per game. With both teams so easily able to put up points, the only question left is who can run the score up higher.

Grantsville was able to grind out a solid win over the Scots in their previous meeting back in January, winning 67-60. Will Grantsville repeat their success, or do the Scots have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
