Football Game Preview: Glen Burnie Gophers vs. Old Mill Patriots

Glen Burnie hasn't had much luck against Old Mill recently, but that could start to change on Thursday. The Gophers are taking a road trip to challenge the Patriots at 6:00 p.m. The two teams are sauntering into the matchup backed by comfortable wins in their prior games.

Glen Burnie had to skate by with only a one-point margin when they last took the field, which might have inspired the 29-point drubbing they dealt Severn Run on Friday. The Gophers breezed past the Wolves to the tune of 42-13. The Gophers pushed the score to 42-0 by the end of the third, a deficit the Wolves cut but never quite recovered from.

Meanwhile, after only ten points in their last contest, Old Mill made sure to put some points up on the board against Annapolis on Friday. The Patriots simply couldn't be stopped as they easily beat the Panthers 48-6. The Patriots might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won four matchups by 33 points or more this season.

Old Mill's win came from a few key players Glen Burnie will need to keep an eye on. One of the most notable was Makel Wilder, who picked up 98 receiving yards and three scores, and also punched in one rushing score. Those three receiving touchdowns gave him a new career-high. Trey MarTini was another key player, throwing for 169 yards and four touchdowns.

Old Mill's run defense was locked in: Annapolis could only muster -0.2 yards per carry. The Patriots' ground attack was stronger, having averaged 4.4.

Glen Burnie's record is now 6-2. As for Old Mill, their record now sits at an identical 6-2.

Glen Burnie came up short against Old Mill in their previous matchup back in October of 2024, falling 19-7. Can the Gophers avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
