Basketball Recap: Jake Schutt's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Servite over Orange Lutheran

Servite was not able to break out of their rough patch on Friday as the team picked up their fifth straight defeat. They came up short against the Orange Lutheran Lancers, falling 74-48. While losing is never fun, the Friars can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 208th, while the Lancers are ranked 94th).

Servite's loss came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Jake Schutt, who posted eight points. The team also got some help courtesy of Daouda Ndiaye, who earned eight points.

Even though they lost, Servite smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 13 offensive boards. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their offensive board total in three consecutive games.

Servite's defeat dropped their record down to 11-7. As for Orange Lutheran, their win was their first in the league, bumping their league record up to 1-2 and their overall record up to 12-7.

Servite has already played their next contest, a 66-39 loss against St. John Bosco on the 15th. As for Orange Lutheran, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next matchup, a 63-31 victory against Central on the 11th.
