Ethan Dorsey looked comfortable as he kept things locked down with no earned runs or hits over four innings pitched. He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than two walks any time he's pitched this season.
At the plate, Landon Hughes was a standout: he went 1-for-3 with one home run and three RBI. That's the most RBI he has posted since back in April. Connor Christiansen was another key player, going a perfect 2-for-2 with two runs, one stolen base, and two RBI.
Cathedral always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .529. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Purdue Polytechnic only posted an OBP of .150.
Meanwhile, Herron got the win against Indianapolis Shortridge on Wednesday by a conclusive 10-3. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Achaeans.
Colvin Meek made a big impact no matter where he played. He tossed four innings while giving up just two earned runs off one hit. Meek was even better at the plate, going 3-for-5 with four runs, one stolen base, and two RBI.
In other batting news, Elon Sharp was incredible, going 3-for-5 with three runs, one stolen base, and two RBI.
Cathedral has been performing well recently as they've won 11 of their last 14 matches. That's provided a nice bump to their 18-9 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 7.3 runs over those games. As for Herron, their victory bumped their record up to 11-6.
Cathedral took their win against Herron in their previous matchup on May 7th by a conclusive 11-0 score. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Fighting Irish since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
