Softball Recap: Princeton Takes a Loss

After flying high against Washington on Saturday, Princeton came back down to earth. The Tigers fell 10-6 to the Southridge Raiders on Tuesday. The Tigers haven't had much luck with the Raiders recently, as the team has come up short the last five times they've met.

Brooklyn Turpin put in work no matter where she played. On the mound, she struck out nine batters over 6.1 innings while giving up just two earned (and eight unearned) runs off nine hits (and not a single walk). She has been consistent: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in six consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-4 with four RBI and one double.

In other batting news, Leighton Burkett made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and went a perfect 4-for-4 with two runs, two RBI, and one double.

Princeton's defeat dropped their record down to 4-15. As for Southridge, the win made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 9-11.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Princeton will face off against South Spencer at 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday. As for Southridge, they will venture away from home to face off against Mt. Vernon at 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday. The Wildcats have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 8.15 runs per game on average), something the Raiders will no doubt try to take advantage of.
