Softball Recap: Jones Triumphs

On Friday Jones's undefeated season almost came to an end. They came within a single run of losing the streak, but they secured a 5-4 W against the Mather Rangers. While the Eagles didn't have the best season last year (they finished 8-16), it's starting to look like those struggles are a thing of the past.

Anna Black spent all five innings played on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned (and three unearned) runs on four hits and racked up nine Ks. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks in three consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Jones got a massive performance out of Julissa Galvez, who went 2-for-3 with three stolen bases, three RBI, and one double. Those three stolen bases gave Galvez a new career-high. Delaney Treccia was another key player, going 1-for-3 with two stolen bases, two runs, and one double.

Jones pushed their record up to 5-0 with the win, which was their third straight on the road. Those road victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 15.7 runs over those games. As for Mather, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 2-2.

Jones has already played their next matchup, a 14-1 win against Von Steuben on the 14th. As for Mather, they also didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next game, a 10-7 victory against Rickover Naval on the 14th.
