Baseball Recap: Lake Station Edison Find Success

Lake Station Edison hadn't done well against Wheeler recently (they were 0-9 in their previous nine matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Tuesday. The Fighting Eagles came out on top in a nail-biter against the Bearcats, sneaking past 13-12. This was a revenge game for the Fighting Eagles: when they faced off against the Bearcats on Monday, they had to take a 7-6 defeat.

Joaquin Hernandez made a big impact while hitting and pitching. He struck out six batters over 4.2 innings while giving up just one earned (and seven unearned) runs off seven hits. That's the most strikeouts he has posted since back in April. He was also big at the plate, going 1-for-3 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run.

In other batting news, Aiden Rowan and Gael Gutierrez did most of the damage at the plate: Rowan went 3-for-4 with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI, while Gutierrez got on base in four of his five plate appearances with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI. Those three hits gave Rowan a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Jordan Hastings, who went 1-for-4 with three RBI, two runs, and one double.

Lake Station Edison is on a roll lately: they've won four of their last five contests. That's provided a massive bump to their 4-9 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 13.0 runs over those games. As for Wheeler, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost four of their last five matchups. That's put a noticeable dent in their 7-11 record this season.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Lake Station Edison will take on East Chicago Central at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday. As for Wheeler, they will square off against Morgan Township at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday. The Bearcats' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Cherokees have averaged an impressive 6.1 runs per game this season.
