Football Recap: Mojave Takes a Loss

After soaring to 82 points the game before, Mojave was a bit more limited in their game on Friday. They were dealt a 55-8 defeat at the hands of the Mammoth Huskies. While losing is never fun, the Mustangs can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' California football rankings (they are ranked 43rd, while the Huskies are ranked third).

When it comes to explaining why Mojave lost, don't look at Jordan Davis. Despite the final result, he rushed for 88 yards and one touchdown.

Eli Ericson continued his habit of posting crazy stat lines for Mammoth, rushing for 68 yards and one score, while also throwing for 105 yards and a pair of TDs while completing 83.3% of his passes. What's more, Ericson racked up 163.2 passer rating, the most he's had since back in September of 2024. Reed Bassler was another key player, rushing for 83 yards and one touchdown on only eight carries.

Mojave has been struggling recently as they've lost five of their last six matchups. That's put a noticeable dent in their 3-6 record this season. As for Mammoth, the victory (which was their seventh in a row) raised their record to 8-1.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming contests. Mojave will challenge Milken at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. The Mustangs will be up against the Wildcats' rather soft defense (which has allowed 34.17 points per game), so fans could be in store for a big offensive performance. As for Mammoth, they will square off against Immanuel Christian at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. The Huskies will need to watch out since the Crusaders have now posted at least 31 points every time they've taken the field this season.
