Football Recap: St. Teresa Bulldogs vs. Mater Dei Knights

If St. Teresa was feeling good fresh off their 35-14 takedown of Central A & M last Friday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. The Bulldogs came up short against the Mater Dei Knights on Friday, falling 65-39. Despite running the score up even higher than they did in their prior game last Friday (35), the Bulldogs still had to take the loss.

Mater Dei found their leader in sophomore Hunter Hochbaum, who threw for 367 yards and four touchdowns while picking up 16.0 yards per attempt, and also rushed for 75 yards and a pair of scores. Hochbaum is becoming a predictor of the Knights' success: when he posts at least three passing touchdowns the team is 3-1 (and 0-4 when he doesn't). Reed Pingsterhaus was in the mix as well, providing Mater Dei with two TDs.

St. Teresa's loss was their fourth straight on the road, which dropped their record down to 2-6. As for Mater Dei, their win bumped their record up to 3-5.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. St. Teresa will welcome St. Bede at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. The Bulldogs will be up against the Bruins' rather soft defense (which has allowed 30 points per contest), so fans could be in store for a big offensive performance. As for Mater Dei, they will be playing at home against Mt. Zion at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. The two teams might be coming in a bit winded given these two teams combined for 956 yards in their previous games.
