League recap: Valley tops Jefferson to extend winning streak

4A Division 1 recap October 22, 2013

Valley added to the longest winning streak in 4A Division 1 this week by beating Jefferson, 88-0. The victory was the fifth in a row for the team.

Valley took down the Yellowjackets 88-0 last week, the largest margin of any game.

Lincoln's offense was unstoppable this week, as it produced the league's top passer, rusher and receiver. Evan Ewing threw for 87 yards and Smith Sabonis had 39 yards receiving. On the ground Alex Seakor contributed 31 yards. Jordan Bryson helped Lincoln's passing attack out by catching 2 balls for 28 yards.

Zach Cook made the biggest impact on defense this week as the Railsplitters lost to Sioux City East. He grabbed 1 interception.

Ewing put up the best numbers through the air as Lincoln lost to the Black Raiders. Ewing's favorite target this week was Sabonis, who caught 5 passes for 39 yards.

Lincoln's offense cannot be tamed this season and the Railsplitters feature the season leaders in passing, rushing and receiving yards. Ewing has thrown for 740 yards and 8 touchdowns this season, while Sabonis has 33 catches for 275 yards.

The most important game in the league this week will be the match up between Sioux City East and Gary Swenson's team. The Black Raiders enters the contest ranked 18th in the state, while the Tigers ranks fifth.

The top two defenses in the league will face off this season when Sioux City East takes on Valley. The Black Raiders have allowed 89 points this season, while the Tigers have given up 157. Sioux City East allowed 0 points last week as it topped Andy Campbell's team.

Valley led the league in scoring this week by notching 88 points on Jefferson.
