Basketball Recap: June Scontras' Big Game Can't Quite Lead West Henderson over Pisgah

If West Henderson was riding high fresh off their 67-40 takedown of Smoky Mountain last Tuesday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. The West Henderson Falcons took a 53-41 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Pisgah Bears on Friday. While losing is never fun, the Falcons can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 192nd, while the Bears are ranked 31st).

Several Falcons players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was June Scontras, who posted nine points along with eight rebounds and three steals. Scontras is on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed two or more in the last four games she's played. Mirna Amin also deserves some recognition as she posted her first assist of the season.

Even though they lost, West Henderson smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with ten offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least eight offensive boards in 34 consecutive games dating back to last season.

Chandler Lowery was her usual excellent self, dropping a double-double with 14 points and 11 boards for Pisgah. Another player making a difference was Jade Cody, who earned eight points in addition to nine rebounds and four steals.

West Henderson's defeat dropped their record down to 12-9. As for Pisgah, the victory (which was their 11th in a row) raised their record to 18-2.

West Henderson has already played their next contest, a 58-44 loss against North Buncombe on the 4th. As for Pisgah, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next match, an 80-41 win against Tuscola on the 4th.
