Baseball Recap: Spring Valley Gets the Win

While Spring Valley's victory against Doral Academy Red Rock wasn't quite the blowout it was the last time the pair played, they still came out on top. The Grizzlies sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 7-6 win over the Dragons on Thursday. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory the Grizzlies have posted since February 26th.

Benny Vazquez was incredible, getting on base in all four of his plate appearances with one home run, four RBI, and two runs. Those four RBI gave him a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Jeremy Correia, who went a perfect 1-for-1 with one home run.

They weren't the only ones working in the home run department: Spring Valley lost a few balls and finished the game with two home runs. That's the most home runs they've managed all season.

Spring Valley pushed their record up to 10-10-1 with the win, which was their third straight on the road. Those road victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 10.0 runs over those games. As for Doral Academy Red Rock, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 13-5.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming matchups. Spring Valley will head out to challenge Pahrump Valley at 3:30 p.m. on Friday. The Trojans have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 7.11 runs per game on average), something the Grizzlies will no doubt try to take advantage of. As for Doral Academy Red Rock, they will venture away from home to take on Mater Academy East Las Vegas at 3:30 p.m. on Friday. The Dragons' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Knights have averaged an impressive 10.4 runs per game this season.
