Softball Recap: Broad Run Comes Up Short

Broad Run extended their losing streak to four on Tuesday, dropping their season record down to 7-7 in the process. They took a 4-1 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Woodgrove Wolverines. The Spartans were not able to make up for their defeat to the Wolverines from their previous meeting back in May of 2024.

Anna Weltens spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered four runs (all of which were unearned) on six hits and racked up nine Ks. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up more than two walks in three consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Broad Run saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Annie Market, who went 2-for-3 with one double and one RBI.

As for Woodgrove, the win (which was their third in a row) raised their record to 10-3. The victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.0 runs on average over those games.

On Woodgrove's side, they also let their pitcher toss all seven innings and she was also dialed-in: Virginia Dowell gave up only one earned run on seven hits and racked up nine Ks.

While Broad Run had to take the loss, they won't have to wait long to give it another shot: the pair's next game is a rematch scheduled at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday.
