Softball Recap: San Pasqual Takes a Loss

San Pasqual had lost five straight at home, but on Wednesday they dropped their record down to 9-13 to make it six. They fell just short of the Rancho Bernardo Broncos by a score of 2-0. The Golden Eagles were not able to repeat the success they had when they faced the Broncos earlier this season, when they won 7-4.

Ally McKinley spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned (and one unearned) run on seven hits and racked up six Ks.

As for Rancho Bernardo, with the win, they broke their five-game losing streak and moved their record to 9-12-1. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory they have posted since April 1st.

On Rancho Bernardo's side, not much got past Zoey Meadows, who gave up just two hits and racked up six Ks to keep San Pasqual off the board. Meadows has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than one earned run in three consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Rancho Bernardo's win was truly a team effort as four different players contributed at least one hit. One of them was Emily Caha, who went 2-for-3 with one RBI. That's the most hits Caha has posted since back in March.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. San Pasqual will venture away from home to take on Del Norte at 6:30 p.m. on Friday. The Nighthawks will roll in looking for their seventh straight victory, something the Golden Eagles surely won't give up without a fight. As for Rancho Bernardo, they will face off against Poway at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (the Broncos 3.7, the Titans 2.4) so any runs scored will be well earned.
