Softball Recap: Berkeley's Luck Changes for the Better on Wednesday

Berkeley had lost six games straight , but after bumping their record up to 7-13 on Wednesday that streak is in the rearview. Everything went their way against the Mt. Eden Monarchs as they made off with an 11-1 win. The Yellowjackets' offense finally found a way to get into gear: the high-octane performance was a 180-degree turn from their last three games.

Olive Lightfoot tossed a big game, not allowing a single earned run and allowing only two hits while striking out eight over 4.1 innings pitched. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't tossed less than seven strikeouts in three consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, June Shaller was incredible, going 2-for-4 with four RBI, one triple, and one run. Those four RBI gave her a new career-high. Riley Pritchard was another key player, going 3-for-4 with two runs and two RBI.

Berkeley hit smart and finished the game with only one strikeout. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Mt. Eden struck out eight times.

As for Mt. Eden, their loss was their fifth straight on the road, which dropped their record down to 7-10. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest defeat they have suffered against Berkeley since April 8, 2015.

On Mt. Eden's side, they saw two different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Jasmine Cruz, who went 1-for-3 with one stolen base and one run.

Looking ahead, Berkeley will face off against San Leandro at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. The Pirates' pitching crew has only allowed 3.3 runs per game this season, so the Yellowjackets' hitters will have their work cut out for them. As for Mt. Eden, they will square off against Arroyo at 4:00 p.m. on Friday. The Dons will roll in looking for their fifth straight victory, something the Monarchs surely won't give up without a fight.
