Softball Recap: Dover Comes Up Short

Pinkerton hit Dover with a five-run first inning on Wednesday, which goes a long way in explaining the final result. The Green Wave took a 12-8 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Astros. The loss continues a trend for the Green Wave in their meetings with the Astros: they've now lost seven in a row.

Jeanna Martel was a force to be reckoned with on the mound despite the final result: she struck out nine batters over five innings while giving up three earned runs off eight hits (and not a single walk). Furthermore, she didn't allow a single walk, the first time she has blanked an opponent since back in April.

At the plate, Sierra Hutchinson led a balanced group of hitters, going 3-for-4 with one home run and two runs. That home run was her first of the season. The team also got some help courtesy of Aaliyah Lafleur, who went 1-for-4 with one home run and three RBI.

Dover's record is now 5-11. As for Pinkerton, their win bumped their record up to 12-2.

We've got plenty of inter-league action coming up soon. Dover is set to square off against their familiar foe Exeter at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday. Meanwhile, Pinkerton will take on rival Bishop Guertin at 4:00 p.m. on Friday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (the Astros 2.1, the Cardinals 4.1) so any runs scored will be well earned.
