Preview: Escondido Cougars vs. San Pasqual Golden Eagles
Escondido is 1-8 against San Pasqual since November of 2014 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Friday. The Escondido Cougars will head out on the road to face off against the San Pasqual Golden Eagles at 7:00 p.m. Escondido is hoping to put an end to a seven-game streak of away losses dating back to last season.
Last Friday, Escondido suffered a rough 27-7 loss at the hands of Rancho Buena Vista.
Meanwhile, San Pasqual had already won two in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 21 points), and they went ahead and made it three on Friday. They didn't even let Vista onto the board and left with a 27-0 victory. The result was nothing new for San Pasqual, who have now won three matches by 27 points or more so far this season.
San Pasqual relied on the efforts of Marcus Rocha, who picked up 143 receiving yards and a touchdown, and Robert Renteria, who threw for 291 yards and three touchdowns while completing 83.3% of his passes. Renteria is on a roll when it comes to passing touchdowns, as he's now passed for three or more in the last three games he's played.
Escondido's defeat dropped their record down to 2-7. As for San Pasqual, they are on a roll lately: they've won five of their last six contests, which provided a massive bump to their 5-4 record this season.
Escondido was dealt a bruising 44-0 defeat at the hands of San Pasqual in their previous meeting back in October of 2022. Can Escondido avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
