Basketball Game Preview: Huntingdon Mustangs vs. Cheatham County Central Cubs

The Huntingdon Mustangs will square off against the Cheatham County Central Cubs on Monday. Huntingdon is coming into the match hot, having won their last ten games.

Last Friday, everything went Huntingdon's way against Hickman County as Huntingdon made off with a 65-41 victory. The Mustangs have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won 11 games by 20 points or more this season.

Meanwhile, Cheatham County Central posted their closest win since January 9th on Friday. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 30-27 victory over Camden Central. Given the Cubs' advantage in MaxPreps' Tennessee basketball rankings (they are ranked 89th, while the Lions are ranked 221st), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Cheatham County Central is on a roll lately: they've won 13 of their last 14 contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 18-4 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 54.3 points over those games. Huntingdon's win was their fourth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 18-6.

Huntingdon was able to grind out a solid victory over Cheatham County Central in their previous matchup back in February of 2024, winning 67-60. Will Huntingdon repeat their success, or does Cheatham County Central have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
