Baseball Recap: Cannon Comes Up Short

Cannon was not able to break out of their rough patch on Tuesday as the team picked up their third straight defeat. They lost 10-3 to the Charlotte Latin Hawks. If the Cougars were looking for revenge after losing 7-3 to the Hawks when the teams met back in March of 2024, then they'll just have to keep looking.

Cannon got a good showing from Thomas Smith, who pitched four innings while giving up just one earned (and two unearned) runs off two hits. That one earned run gave Smith a new career-low.

On the hitting side, Mason Mierzwa was cooking despite his team's loss, going a perfect 3-for-3 with two doubles and two RBI. Jadon Grouse also deserves some recognition as he scored his first run of the season.

Cannon now has a losing record of 4-5. As for Charlotte Latin, their win was their fifth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 9-2.

Coming up, Charlotte Latin will square off against Mountain Island Charter at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday. Cannon will be paying especially close attention to the Hawks' match: after the Hawks faces off against the Raptors, they'll take on Cannon again at 7:00 p.m. on Friday.
