Basketball Game Preview: Clarkson/Leigh Patriots vs. West Point-Beemer Cadets

The Clarkson/Leigh Patriots and the West Point-Beemer Cadets will compete for holiday cheer at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday. Clarkson/Leigh is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 51.2 points per game this season.

Clarkson/Leigh is likely headed into the contest with a focus on the second half, which is when things went downhill against Battle Creek on Saturday. The Patriots took a 48-44 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Braves. The Patriots have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Even though the team lost, they still had their share of impressive performances. One of the best came from Kyle McMullin, who dropped a double-double with 17 points and ten rebounds. The game was his fifth in a row with at least 15 points. Another player making a difference was Easton Brabec, who shot 55% from the field en route to 14 points.

Meanwhile, West Point-Beemer was within striking distance but couldn't close the gap on Tuesday as they fell 57-53 to Howells-Dodge. That's two games in a row now that the Cadets have lost by exactly four points.

Like Clarkson/Leigh, West Point-Beemer lost despite seeing results from several players. Peyton Penrose led the charge by going 6-for-11 to rack up 14 points and five assists. Hunter Swanson was another key player, putting up 14 points and six assists.

West Point-Beemer's loss dropped their record down to 3-2. As for Clarkson/Leigh, their defeat dropped their record down to 1-4.

Rebounding is likely to be a big factor in this contest: Clarkson/Leigh has been crashing the boards this season, having averaged 35.8 boards per game. However, it's not like West Point-Beemer struggles in that department as they've been averaging 27 rebounds. With both teams battling to corral missed shots, we'll see if one team can grab an edge.
