Basketball Recap: McCutcheon Takes a Loss

After flying high against Crawfordsville last Tuesday, McCutcheon came back down to earth. The McCutcheon Mavericks were just a bucket shy of victory on Friday and fell 52-51 to the Southmont Mounties.

Brody Baker and Brody Raeke certainly did their best on Friday to avoid the loss. Baker went 8-for-17 en route to 21 points and five boards, while Raeke dropped a double-double with ten points and 12 rebounds. The contest was Baker's seventh in a row with at least 16 points. Gavin Pritzel was another key player, putting up six points and five boards.

Aaron Mcmasters was a one-man wrecking crew for Southmont as he went 7-for-13 on his way to 16 points and five steals. Those five steals gave Mcmasters a new career-high. Dean Mcgaughey also deserves some recognition as he posted his first block of the season.

McCutcheon's loss dropped their record down to 10-7. As for Southmont, the victory made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 12-6.

McCutcheon has already played their next matchup, a 78-24 win against Frankfort on the 15th. As for Southmont, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next game, a 78-58 victory against South Putnam on the 18th.
