Softball Recap: Manchester Turns Things Around After Road Loss

There's no place like home for Manchester, who bounced back after a loss on the road last Friday. They skirted past the Clay Panthers 5-4. The win continues a trend for the Greyhounds in their matchups with the Panthers: they've now won three in a row.

Rylie Young spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered three earned (and one unearned) runs on four hits and racked up nine Ks. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than six strikeouts any time she's pitched this season.

On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Elliana Applegate, who went 2-for-3 with one home run. Another player making a difference was Mahayla Brown, who got on base in all four of her plate appearances with one stolen base.

Manchester's victory bumped their record up to 5-1. As for Clay, they now have a losing record of 3-4.

Coming up, Manchester will host Augusta at 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday. The Greyhounds are facing the Panthers at the right time seeing as the Panthers are stuck on a six-game losing streak. As for Clay, they are taking a road trip to take on Notre Dame at 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday. The Titans will roll in looking for their sixth straight win, something the Panthers surely won't give up without a fight.
