Baseball Recap: Westlake Starts Season with Victory Against Hendrick Hudson

Westlake gave their fans exactly what they wanted out of a home opener on Wednesday. Their pitcher stepped up to hand the Hendrick Hudson Sailors an 11-0 shutout.

Mikey Sica was a major factor while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run while striking out 11 over five innings pitched. Sica was also solid in the batter's box, scoring a run while going 1-for-1.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Keith Haecker, who went 1-for-2 with one home run, three runs, and three RBI. Those three runs gave him a new career-high. JT Finan was another key player, scoring a run while going 1-for-2.

Hendrick Hudson is on a four-game losing streak (dating back to last season) that has dropped them down to 0-3.

Looking ahead, Westlake will take on Blind Brook at 4:30 p.m. on Friday. As for Hendrick Hudson, they will take on Greeley in a tournament on Friday.
