Basketball Recap: Bryant Comes Up Short

Bryant's tournament run continued when they took on Bellaire on Monday. The Bryant Hornets were just a bucket shy of victory and fell 68-67 to the Bellaire Cardinals. Despite running the score up even higher than they did in their prior game last Saturday (57), the Hornets still had to take the loss.

Despite the loss, Bryant still got an impressive performance from Rj Young, who dropped a double-double on 27 points and 13 boards. Young's afternoon made it three games in a row in which he has scored at least ten points. Camarion Bead was another key player, going 5 for 12 on his way to 16 points.

Even though they lost, Bryant was working as a unit and finished the game with 14 assists. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Bellaire only racked up seven assists.

Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Bellaire to victory, but perhaps none more so than Kohlman Dutton, who went 8 of 13 on his way to 21 points and three steals. That's the most points Dutton has posted since back in February of 2024. The team also got some help courtesy of Shelton Henderson, who dropped a double-double on 19 points and 11 boards.

Bryant has been struggling recently as they've lost three of their last four matches, which put a noticeable dent in their 9-7 record this season. As for Bellaire, they are on a roll lately: they've won six of their last seven contests, which provided a nice bump to their 14-7 record this season.

Bryant will look to take advantage of their home court for the first time this season as they take on Little Rock Christian Academy at 7:00 p.m. on January 7th. One thing working in Little Rock Christian Academy's favor is that they have posted at least 55 points in their last six games. As for Bellaire, they will challenge Great Crossing at 8:00 p.m. on Saturday.
