Softball Recap: Northwest Cabarrus Trojans vs. West Rowan Falcons
Northwest Cabarrus had lost three straight on the road, but on Tuesday they dropped their record down to 6-7 to make it four. They fell just short of the West Rowan Falcons by a score of 4-2. The result was an unpleasant reminder to the Trojans of the 17-0 defeat they experienced in the pair's previous head-to-head fixture back in April of 2024.
Northwest Cabarrus saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Haylee Ellis, who went 2-for-3 with one RBI.
As for West Rowan, the win (which was their eighth in a row) raised their record to 15-2. The victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.3 runs on average over those games.
On West Rowan's side, Arabelle Shulenburger made a splash while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out six batters over 6.2 innings while giving up just two earned runs off six hits (and only one walk). Shulenburger has been consistent for a while: she hasn't given up more than two walks any time she's pitched this season. She was also big at the plate, getting on base in all three of her plate appearances with one RBI.
In other batting news, Reese Poole was excellent, going 3-for-4 with two stolen bases and one run. That's the most hits she has posted since back in February.
The teams didn't have to wait long for a rematch: West Rowan beat Northwest Cabarrus by a score of 20-6 later that day.
