Basketball Recap: Montwood's Loss Ends Six-Game Winning Streak on the Road

After a string of three wins, Montwood's good fortune finally ran out on Tuesday. They fell 53-42 to the Pebble Hills Spartans. Sadly, that's the second time they've come up short against the Rams this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 41-36 back in December of 2024.

Montwood's defeat shouldn't obscure the performances of Jocelynn Custard, who went 5 for 9 en route to 12 points and six rebounds, and Jazlynn Hernandez, who posted seven points and 12 boards. That's the most rebounds Hernandez has posted since back in December of 2024. Ashley Gutierrez was another key player, putting up eight points.

Pebble Hills' win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Sofia Holguin, who put up 20 points and five boards. Another player making a difference was Jordan Sapien, who dropped a double-double on ten points and 11 assists.

Montwood's loss ended a six-game streak of away wins dating back to last season and brought them to 18-9. As for Pebble Hills, they are on a roll lately: they've won 14 of their last 15 matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 21-6 record this season.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Montwood has already played their next game (against Coronado), but no score has been uploaded at the time of writing. Pebble Hills will head out to challenge Eastwood at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Each of these teams will be fighting to keep a win streak alive as Pebble Hills comes in on 11 and Eastwood on five.
