Baseball Recap: King Comes Up Short

King extended their losing streak to five on Tuesday, dropping them down to 2-8-1. They lost 11-1 to the Kelly Trojans. If the Jaguars were looking for revenge after losing 12-3 to the Trojans when the teams met back in April of 2025, then they'll just have to keep looking.

Ayden Matthews and Jhanius Walls stepped up to the plate in a big way. Matthews went 1-for-2 with one home run, while Walls went a perfect 1-for-1 with three stolen bases and one double. That hit was Matthews' first of the season.

As for Kelly, they pushed their record up to 12-2-1 with the win, which was their sixth straight at home. Those home victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 9.8 runs over those games.

On Kelly's side, Mark Schrode was a major factor while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he struck out 13 batters over 4.2 innings while giving up just one earned run off two hits. Schrode has been consistent recently: he hasn't tossed less than 12 strikeouts in three consecutive appearances. He was also stellar in the batter's box, getting on base in all three of his plate appearances with one home run, two stolen bases, and two RBI.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Roger Rivera, who got on base in all three of his plate appearances with eight stolen bases and three runs. Those three runs gave him a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Aure Perez, who went 2-for-3 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run.

While King had to take the loss, they won't have to wait long to give it another shot: the pair's next game is a rematch scheduled at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday.
