Basketball Recap: Bishop Carroll Takes a Loss

Bishop Carroll lost against Northwest back in December of 2024, and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Friday. The Bishop Carroll Golden Eagles took a 67-56 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Northwest Grizzlies. While losing is never fun, the Golden Eagles can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Kansas basketball rankings (they are ranked 136th, while the Grizzlies are ranked 30th).

Northwest's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Elijah Benning, who dropped a double-double with 15 points and ten assists. With that strong performance, Benning is now averaging an impressive 8.1 assists per game. The team also got some help courtesy of River Peters, who went 7-for-16 to rack up 17 points and eight rebounds.

Bishop Carroll's defeat was their third straight at home, which dropped their record down to 7-10. Those losses can't be blamed on the team's offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 57.7 points over those games. As for Northwest, the victory (which was their seventh in a row) raised their record to 14-3.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. It'll be a Battle of the Birds when the Golden Eagles challenge the Falcons at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Heights knows how to get points on the board -- the squad has finished with 55 points or more in their past five contests -- so hopefully Bishop Carroll likes a good challenge. As for Northwest, they will challenge West at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Northwest is facing West at the right time seeing as West is stuck on a seven-game losing streak.
