Softball Recap: Waterloo Continues Home Dominance on Friday

The matchup between Waterloo and Belleville West on Friday hardly resembled the 4-0 effort from their previous meeting. The Bulldogs won by a run and slipped past the Maroons 10-9. The high-flying hitting performance was a huge turnaround for the Bulldogs considering their one-run performance the matchup before.

Waterloo let Ava Brown and Mallory Thompson run wild. Brown scored two runs while going 2-for-5, while Thompson scored two runs and stole a base while getting on base in four of her five plate appearances. The team also got some help courtesy of Riley McDermott, who scored two runs while going 2-for-4.

Waterloo's win was their seventh straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 7-2. Those home victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 8.6 runs over those games. As for Belleville West, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 5-5.

Coming up, Waterloo will face off against Triad at 4:30 p.m. on Monday. As for Belleville West, they will be playing at home against East St. Louis at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday. The Maroons are facing the Flyers at the right time seeing as the Flyers are stuck on a six-game losing streak.
