Softball Recap: Jal Gets the Win

Jal is still undefeated this season after their game against Mesilla Valley Christian School on Saturday, but Mesilla Valley Christian School came as close as anyone has to beating them. The Panthers came within a single run of losing the streak, but they secured a 10-9 W against the SonBlazers. That's the third time they've managed to beat them this season, with their most recent win being a 17-16 victory last Saturday.

Johnna Butts was a major factor no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out six batters over seven innings while giving up just one earned (and eight unearned) runs off nine hits. She has been consistent for a while: she hasn't given up more than two walks any time she's pitched this season. She was also stellar in the batter's box, going 2-for-4 with four RBI, one triple, and one run.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Kaedyn Lujan, who went 2-for-4 with two runs and two RBI. Another player making a difference was Aayliah Navarette, who went 2-for-3 with two runs.

Jal was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .375. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .357 or higher in three consecutive matchups.

Jal's record is now 10-0. As for Mesilla Valley Christian School, their loss dropped their record down to 4-4.

Looking ahead, Jal is packing up and heading out on the road for their first away game of the season: they will face off against Non Varsity Opponent at 5:00 p.m. on April 6. As for Mesilla Valley Christian School, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Hatch Valley at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
