Basketball Recap: Columbia's Run of Six Straight Victories Now Over

After a string of six wins, Columbia's good fortune finally ran out on Tuesday. They fell just short of the Bay Tigers by a score of 38-36. The Wildcats were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Tigers apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in January of 2024.

When it comes to explaining why Columbia lost, don't look at Avyon Lewis. Despite the final result, he dropped a double-double on 21 points and 12 boards. The dominant performance gave Lewis a new career-high in points. Darrien Peters was another key player, putting up seven points and five rebounds.

Columbia's defeat dropped their record down to 14-9. As for Bay, the win made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 12-14.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. A feisty cat fight is on tap when the Columbia Wildcats challenge the Sumrall Bobcats at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday. As for Bay, they will square off against Poplarville at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday.
