Sotomayor found their leader in underclassman Cameron Grady, who rushed for 173 yards and three touchdowns on only 12 carries. Grady really tore up the turf during one magnificent 98-yard run. The team also got some help courtesy of Julius Johnson, who rushed for 72 yards and a touchdown.
Perhaps unsurprisingly given the score, Sotomayor was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 310 rushing yards. That's the most rushing yards they've posted since back in September of 2023.
Sotomayor's defense was in the mix too, especially the secondary: they snagged two passes before it was all said and done. The picks came courtesy of Shawn Wasley and Michael Inweh. Wasley also set a new season high mark in total tackles with 16. Sotomayor got some further help from Tristin Woodruff: he picked up two sacks, forced a fumble, and forced a fumble.
Meanwhile, it may have taken overtime to finish the job, but Marshall ultimately got the result they hoped for on Saturday. They had just enough and edged Warren out 31-28. The Rams' offense stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most points they've scored all season.
It was another big night for Jalen Glover, who rushed for 187 yards while picking up 7.8 yards per carry.
Sotomayor's victory ended a four-game drought at home dating back to last season and bumped them up to 2-2. As for Marshall, the win also got them back to even at 2-2.
Friday's match might be decided in the on the ground. Sotomayor has been excellent on the ground this season, having averaged 164.8 rushing yards per game. However, it's not like Marshall struggles in that department as they've been averaging 227. It's looking like Friday's matchup might have some serious battles in the trenches.
