Preview: Florence vs. Lanier
After two weeks on the road, Florence is heading back home. They will square off against Lanier at 7:00 PM on Friday. Florence have seen their point totals decreasing over the past three games, a vulnerability Lanier are surely hoping to exploit.
It's never fun to lose, and it's even less fun to lose 21-62, which was the final score in Florence's tilt against South Pike last Friday. Florence's loss came about despite a quality game from junior Reed Barlow, who picked up 100 yards on the ground and caught passes for 141 yards. If you haven't heard Barlow's name lately, then you haven't been paying much attention: he has loomed large in their past five games.
Meanwhile, Lanier ran circles around Richland, and the extra yardage (636 yards vs. 194.1 yards) paid off. Lanier took their match against Richland by a conclusive 48-14 score. That looming 34-point mark stands out as the most commanding margin for Lanier yet.
Lanier's victory lifted them to 7-3 while Florence's defeat dropped them down to 3-7. In their win, Lanier relied heavily on junior Todarius Magee, who rushed for 376 yards and 4 touchdowns. Florence will need to find a way to minimize his impact if they want to win.
