Football Game Preview: Lafayette Hornets vs. Trenton Tigers

The Lafayette Hornets will venture away from home to square off against the Trenton Tigers at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Lafayette will be looking to extend their current three-game winning streak.

Last Friday, Lafayette earned a 27-20 victory over Fort White.

Tywan K Williamson produced another solid effort rushing for 120 yards and two TDs while picking up 7.5 yards per carry, and also throwing for 117 yards and a pair of touchdowns.

Meanwhile, after soaring to 42 points the game before, Trenton was a bit more limited in their matchup on Friday. They received a blow as they fell 30-13 to Branford. The defeat continues a trend for the Tigers in their meetings with the Buccaneers: they've now lost four in a row.

Lafayette will have to contain Alexzander Henry as he made an impact in Trenton's last game. He rushed for 163 yards and two scores on only 14 carries. Henry's longest rush was for an incredible 72 yards.

Trenton's loss dropped their record down to 5-2. As for Lafayette, their win bumped their record up to 6-1.

Friday's contest might be decided on the ground. Lafayette has been excellent on the ground this season, having averaged 188.4 rushing yards per game. However, it's not like Trenton struggles in that department as they've been averaging 225.7 rushing yards. There's a good chance Friday's game turns into a tough fight on the ground.

Everything came up roses for Lafayette against Trenton when the teams last played back in October of 2024, as the team secured a 47-0 victory. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Hornets since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
