Basketball Recap: Shelbyville Takes a Loss

Shelbyville easily dispatched St. Teresa last Saturday, but unfortunately both the margin and the ultimate result were a different story in this one. The Shelbyville Rams fell just short of the Meridian Hawks by a score of 63-61 on Wednesday. The Rams were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Hawks apparently hadn't forgotten their defeat the last time these teams played back in February of 2024.

When it comes to explaining why Shelbyville lost, don't look at Jackson Jokisch. Despite the final result, he dropped a double-double with 18 points and 15 rebounds. The match was Jokisch's fourth in a row with at least 18 points. Rhyatt Walker was another key player, going 5 of 8 on his way to 14 points and five boards.

Shelbyville's loss dropped their record down to 13-5. As for Meridian, they are on a roll lately: they've won six of their last seven games, which provided a nice bump to their 9-13 record this season.

Shelbyville wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next contest, a 60-56 defeat against Tuscola on the 31st. As for Meridian, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next matchup, a 60-53 loss against Nokomis on the 31st.
