Baseball Recap: Maplewood Takes a Loss

Maplewood extended their losing streak to four on Tuesday, dropping their season record down to 2-11 in the process. They came up short against the Hume-Fogg Blue Knights, falling 19-1. The Panthers were not able to make up for their defeat to the Blue Knights from their previous meeting back in April of 2024.

As for Hume-Fogg, their victory ended a three-game drought on the road and puts them at 12-14. Their hitters stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most runs they've scored all season.

For Hume-Fogg's part, Jonathon Kleinstick was a major factor while hitting and pitching. He struck out six batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs off three hits. Those six strikeouts gave Kleinstick a new career-high. He was also big at the plate, getting on base in all three of his plate appearances with two runs and one RBI. He is becoming a predictor of Hume-Fogg's success: when he posts at least two runs the team is undefeated (and 8-14 when he doesn't).

In other batting news, Buren Bradley was a standout: he went 2-for-3 with three RBI, two runs, and one triple. He has become a key player for Hume-Fogg: the team is undefeated when he posts at least two runs, but 6-14 otherwise. Austin Sandberg was another key player, getting on base in two of his three plate appearances with four stolen bases, three runs, and one RBI.

The teams didn't have to wait long for a rematch: Hume-Fogg beat Maplewood by a score of 12-2 later that day.
