Softball Recap: Benton Central Takes a Loss

Benton Central had lost seven straight on the road, but on Saturday they dropped their record down to 6-18 to make it eight. They came up short against the Logansport Berries, falling 14-0. The Bison were not able to make up for their loss to the Berries from their previous meeting back in May of 2024.

Benton Central saw two different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Julianna Sibray, who went 1-for-3 with one double.

As for Logansport, they have been performing well recently as they've won ten of their last 12 games. That's provided a nice bump to their 19-4 record this season. The result was nothing new for Logansport, who have now won 11 contests by eight runs or more so far this season.

On Logansport's side, Maddy Baumgardner made a big impact no matter where she played. She didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits while striking out eight over five innings pitched. Baumgardner has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than one earned run in three consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going a perfect 2-for-2 with one run and one RBI. Those two hits gave her a new career-high.

In other batting news, Rylinn Spradling was a standout: she went 2-for-3 with three RBI, two runs, and two doubles. Those two doubles gave her a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Kellyn Cripe, who went 2-for-3 with two runs, one triple, and one RBI.

While Benton Central had to take the loss, they won't have to wait long to give it another shot: the pair will be back at it again later today.
