A feisty cat fight will be fought as Halls Tigers face off against Trinity Christian Academy Lions at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday. Halls has a tough task ahead: they'll enter the game with three straight defeats, while Trinity Christian Academy will come in with three straight victories.
Halls fell victim to Munford and their airtight pitching crew on Tuesday. They took a 5-0 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Cougars.
Carrlee Riddick spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered just two earned (and three unearned) runs on five hits and racked up six Ks. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks in five consecutive appearances.
At the plate, Halls saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Addyson Brodie, who went 1-for-2 with one double. Madison Turnbow also deserves some recognition as she hit her first double of the season.
Meanwhile, Trinity Christian Academy hadn't done well against Riverside recently (they were 1-6 in their previous seven matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Tuesday. Trinity Christian Academy put the hurt on Riverside with a sharp 15-2 win. The Lions might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won three contests by 13 runs or more this season.
Haley Lewis was a major factor no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out seven batters over five innings while giving up just two earned runs off four hits. Lewis was even better at the plate, scoring four runs and stealing a base while going 4-for-5. Those four runs gave her a new career-high.
In other batting news, Trinity Christian Academy got a massive performance out of Abby Davis, who scored two runs while going 3-for-3. Another player making a difference was Briley Dunavant, who scored two runs while getting on base in all four of her plate appearances.
Trinity Christian Academy always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .634. That was just more of the same: they've now posted an OBP of .535 or higher in three consecutive matchups.
Halls' loss dropped their record down to 4-7. As for Trinity Christian Academy, the victory got them back to even at 4-4.
Halls beat Trinity Christian Academy 4-1 in their previous matchup on Thursday. The rematch might be a little tougher for Halls since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
