Softball Recap: Hernando Christian Academy Takes a Loss

Hernando Christian Academy had lost nine straight on the road dating back to last season, but on Tuesday they dropped their record down to 1-15 to make it ten. They lost 22-12 to the Bishop McLaughlin Catholic Hurricanes. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Hurricanes this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 30-17 back in March.

Piper Gill was cooking despite her team's loss, getting on base in all four of her plate appearances with two stolen bases, two RBI, and one run. Emma Hendricks also deserves some recognition as she snagged her first stolen base of the season.

As for Bishop McLaughlin Catholic, their victory ended a 12-game drought at home dating back to last season and bumped them up to 4-9. The result was nothing new for the Hurricanes, who have now won four matchups by ten runs or more so far this season.

On Bishop McLaughlin Catholic's side, Cleopatra Cabrera made a splash no matter where she played. She struck out eight batters over 5.1 innings while giving up five earned (and four unearned) runs off only two hits. Those eight strikeouts gave Cabrera a new career-high. She was also stellar in the batter's box, going 2-for-4 with four RBI, one stolen base, and one run.

In other batting news, Catherine Bell was a standout: she went a perfect 4-for-4 with five runs, one triple, and one stolen base. Those four hits gave her a new career-high. Keegan Castelli was another key player, going a perfect 4-for-4 with three stolen bases, four runs, and one RBI.

Hernando Christian Academy does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for Bishop McLaughlin Catholic, they will take on Wildwood at 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday. The Wildcats have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 18.67 runs per game on average), something the Hurricanes will no doubt try to take advantage of.
