Softball Recap: Barron Takes a Loss

Barron dropped their record down to 6-4-1 on Friday, which also ended the team's three-game streak of wins. They came up short against the Cumberland Beavers, falling 9-2. Having soared to a lofty 21 runs in the game before, the Golden Bears couldn't push the score so high this time.

Barron saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Madalyn Kallsen, who went 2-for-3 with three stolen bases, one run, and one double. That double marked the first that Kallsen has hit this season.

As for Cumberland, the win got them back to even at 5-5. Give some credit to the fans of both teams: the last four times they've met, the home team has come away the winner.

On Cumberland's side, Morgan Monchilovich was a major factor no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out 16 batters over seven innings while giving up just two earned runs off four hits. Those 16 strikeouts gave Monchilovich a new career-high. She was also big at the plate, going 2-for-4 with three RBI, one triple, and one run.

In other batting news, Avery Johnson was excellent, going 3-for-4 with two stolen bases and two runs. Another player making a difference was Presli Butzler, who went 2-for-4 with two RBI and one run.

Coming up, Barron will take on Northwestern at 5:00 p.m. on Monday. The Golden Bears' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Tigers have averaged an impressive 6.5 runs per game this season. As for Cumberland, they will challenge Chetek-Weyerhaeuser at 5:00 p.m. on Monday.
