Basketball Recap: El Capitan Sets Scoring Season-High Against San Ysidro

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask El Capitan). They simply couldn't be stopped on Wednesday as they easily beat the San Ysidro Cougars 78-45. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest win the Vaqueros have posted since December 27, 2023.

El Capitan's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Jason Wilson, who went 7 of 12 on his way to 16 points along with five assists and five boards. The team also got some help courtesy of Brandt Barker, who went 5 of 6 on his way to 14 points and seven rebounds.

El Capitan smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with ten offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least nine offensive rebounds in seven consecutive matches.

Several Cougars players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Gael Hernandez, who posted 12 points. Those 12 points gave Hernandez a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Jordan Miranda, who put up nine points.

El Capitan's win ended a four-game drought at home and bumped them up to 5-13. As for San Ysidro, they dropped their record down to 2-15 with the loss, which was their 12th straight on the road dating back to last season.

El Capitan will venture away from home to face off against Santana at 5:00 p.m. on Saturday. That contest will pit two of the most dominant centers against one another: Dain Diaz and Trevin Curo. As for San Ysidro, a feisty cat fight will be fought when the San Ysidro Cougars duke it out with the Imperial Tigers at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday.
