Basketball Recap: Benedictine Comes Up Short

Benedictine was not able to break out of their rough patch on Tuesday as the team picked up their seventh straight loss dating back to last season. They took a hard 57-42 fall against the Hilton Head Island Seahawks. While losing is never fun, the Cadets can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' basketball rankings in their respective home states (they are ranked 470th in Georgia, while the Seahawks are ranked 75th in South Carolina).

Hilton Head Island was led to victory by Ta'Jae Wright and Kiedis Smith. Wright dropped a double-double with ten points and 13 rebounds, while Smith shot 54% from the field to rack up 17 points and six boards. Wright is also crushing it when it comes to steals: he's grabbed at least two every time he's taken the court this season. Derrick Raniszewski was another key player, putting up ten points and three steals.

Benedictine's defeat dropped their record down to 0-5. As for Hilton Head Island, they now have a winning record of 3-2.

Benedictine will get a bit of extra time to process the loss as their next game is a ways off. They'll take on Beach at 4:30 p.m. on the 23rd. As for Hilton Head Island, they wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next contest, a 74-48 win against Ridgeland Secondary Academy Of Excellence on the 12th.
