Basketball Recap: Gulf Coast Takes a Loss

If Gulf Coast was feeling good fresh off their 69-35 takedown of East Lee County last Wednesday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. The Gulf Coast Sharks took a 65-60 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Martin County Tigers. While losing is never fun, the Sharks can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Florida basketball rankings (they are ranked 372nd, while the Tigers are ranked 27th).

It was another big night for Brandon Brazell, who almost dropped a double-double on 19 points and nine rebounds for Martin County. Brazell is on a roll when it comes to rebounds, as he's now pulled down eight or more in the last four games he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Ari Smith, who posted 13 points.

Gulf Coast's defeat dropped their record down to 7-6. As for Martin County, the victory keeps them at an undefeated 12-0.

Gulf Coast wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next contest, a 66-57 win against North Fort Myers on the 3rd. As for Martin County, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next match, a 55-51 victory against Wharton on the 3rd.
